PENSACOLA - The "Black Friday" rush is over but bargain hunters are still out.
Predictions of less spending this season forced many stores into a frenzy discounting prices.
Today we explain how local shoppers and stores faired this year compared years past.
"We have this style here for $89.95, retails at $149.95," said Esther Murray, Ole Time Leather.
Retailers are striking prices and deals, doing anything they can to get shoppers spending.
"We will probably spend what we normally do, I don't think we'll spend less by any means," said Greg Hunsucker, shopper.
"I think we will spend a little less," said John Williams, shopper.
Sale signs and big discounts are a familiar sight on store fronts. But this year those words hit close to home.
"Oh, they are real important because we have to add in gas, then we have to think about our food and our bills first and then you are trying to add it up in your head as you are buying to see how much you have left," said Nicole Golden, shopper.
Nicole Golden shops the national chains.
"We did go to Toys-"R"-Us before we came here and of course they have clearence stuff everywhere," said Golden.
And she shops local flea markets - wherever she can strike a deal.
"We've talked to a lot of people and we've been able to negotiate a lot of deals," said Golden.
Despite predictions of consumers spending less. Some local retailers say they're pleased with "Black Friday" sales.
"I was a little fearful, like everybody else," said Penny Lang, Koala Mattress. "2006 we had a banner year, 2007 it was real down, this year we've surpassed 2007 already for this weekend so we feel encouraged about what's going on out there right now."
"I think things will pick up again for a lot of the stores," said Esther Murray, Ole Time Leather.
"We might end up spending a little more, but I think we will get more for it because when you shop around and compare the prices you are able to get more for your money," said Nicole Golden.Bargain Hunting After Black Friday
