2016 Coach of the Year: Bobby Clayton

2016 Coach of the Year: Bobby Clayton

There were plenty of fine coaching jobs this season, Crestview's Tim Hatten and Tate’s Jay Lindsey certainly deserve notice, but it's hard to top the historic turnaround at Gulf Breeze,

For that, Bobby Clayton is our coach of the year.

After 15 years as an assistant he landed his first head coach job at his alma mater and immediately raised expectations with an intense off season workout program.

Most impressively, Clayton made the players believe they could win, and they did, beyond any reasonable predictions.

A 4-0 start was the first in program history. The Dolphins ended a decade long losing streak against three different rivals and went on to win a district championship for the first time in 27 years.

A former quarterback, Clayton is known for his offensive mind. His system delivered nearly 40 points a game, but he also greatly elevated a Dolphins defense that played with tremendous heart.
