Bennett has Escambia buzzing
In nearly two decades at Pensacola High School (PHS), Mike Bennett found plenty of success, including a state championship in 2009. After two years away from coaching, he's back at PHS' top rival, Escambia, but Bennett doesn’t feel the least bit awkward about that.
The Gators landed another high profile addition. Jacob Copeland, the nation’s fifth ranked receiver prospect, and recent Florida commit, transferred from Pine Forest.
Copeland's arrival is a big boost to Escambia's drastic switch on offense from the option to the spread. They look pretty stacked at receiver and running back and Bennett feels good about a combo at quarterback.
Senior Steven McGhee, moving over from receiver, and sophomore A.V. Smith. When McGhee is not at quarterback, he'll be doing lots of other things including receiver, defensive back, and return man.
Bennett said the Gators defense is standing out so far. They are especially strong up front led by UCF commit Daishon Folsom.
The Gators will open the season with a Thursday night special, August 24th, against West Florida Tech.
