Choctaw to face off against Fort Myers in State Championship

Choctaw girls basketball pulled away in the 2nd half to beat Daytona Beach Father Lopez 47-39 in the 7A State Semifinals in Lakeland.

The Indians used an 11-0 surge starting late in the 3rd quarter to take control.

Junior guard Ataliya Brown shook off a slow start to lead the scoring with 16 points.

Senior forward Amber Leggett came up huge all over the court with 13 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and two blocks.

Freshman Alexis Becker stepped up with 12 points, nine in the first half when Choctaw needed a spark.

The Indians have reached the state title game for the 3rd time in six years and are trying to break through and win their first championship.

Choctaw will face Fort Myers in the 7A Championship Game, Saturday at 1 p.m. central time in Lakeland.
