Niceville's Shelikoff favorite at state
NICEVILLE, Fla. (WEAR) —
Edward Shelikoff always liked to throw things as a kid; toys and whatever else he could get his hands on. Throwing as a sport was not on his radar starting high school, but his older brother was on the track team and suggested he give throwing a try.
Shelikoff did OK his first two seasons, but things took a big upswing with the arrival of throwing coach Emily Webb. Webb, who threw in college at Dayton, has clearly brought out the best in Shelikoff.
Finishing fourth in the state discus last season, he's the favorite heading into this year’s finals after throwing a meet record 194-4 in regionals. Shelikoff is also seeded number two in shot put.
Blooming late limited his recruitment possibilities, but he still had the opportunity to land some Division I scholarships. Instead he's going into the engineering program at the University of Florida and planning to walk on the track team.
