5-year-old track phenom breaks records
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
If you think you should be able to outrun any five-year-old, you probably haven't met Jakaylen Smalls.
This young man is ridiculously fast. Last month at a meet in Mobile, Smalls broke the international record in both the 50 and 100 meters.
He ran the 50 in 8.45 seconds and the 100 in 16.18.
Back in March up in Detroit he won AAU national titles in the 60 meters, 200 meters and shot put.
Young Mister Smalls trains out at Ferry Pass Middle School with the Superstar Status Elite Track Club. Jakaylen is not the only star in his club.
12-year-old Will Smith Junior won indoor national tiles in three events, and at the Gulf Coast Invitational Meet in Mobile, all 16 athletes that ran earned a medal.
No doubt the five-year-old phenom is providing some inspiration.
