Lockridge drafted by Yankees
Pensacola's Brandon Lockridge wasn't drafted out of Catholic High in 2015, but his pro stock soared in college, and Lockridge lands a big payoff.
Lockridge was selected in round five of the Major League Draft by the New York Yankees with the 157th overall pick.
A starter from day one at Troy, he hit a combined .305 over three seasons. He went out with a bang in regionals this past weekend, hitting two homers in one game against Georgia.
Lockridge played 2nd base his first two seasons but moved to centerfield as a junior, and only made one error all season. His speed is a huge asset as Lockridge stole 25 bases this season and has a school record 14 triples. He's been an ironman for the Trojans too, playing in 166 consecutive games
He's only the fifth player in Troy history to be chosen in round five or higher.
At the 157th pick his slotted signing bonus would be around $320,000. Lockridge could return to Troy for his senior season, but it seems likely he'll sign with the Yankees.
