UWF Softball hosting NCAA Regional
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
UWF softball will host an NCAA regional this week. It's the first time in nearly two decades. The Argos, ranked 10th in the nation, with plenty of reasons to feel confident heading in.
The NCAA South Region number one seed, and a chance to host was well earned for a team that won thirty of their last thirty five games.
It's a source of pride and a confidence boost, but UWF trying to keep the accomplishment in perspective.
The Argos are coming off mixed results at the conference tournament, splitting two games in Huntsville.
They're taking it as a positive learning experience for younger players. With post season focus especially bright on leading hitter Rhiannon Sassman.
Coach Melissa Paul says bigger contributions from others is even more important Two that have really stepped it up recently are junior college transfer Tiona Hill and freshman Baleigh Boltz.
UWF opens regional play Thursday afternoon against 8th seeded Claflin.
