Promising start for Wahoos' Sparks
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
Taylor Sparks earned the promotion to Double-A in the second half of last season, but the results weren't great. He hit only .179 in Pensacola.
It prompted an off season of extra work and opening day is already showing the fruits.
Sparks delivered a home run ball, but also a coveted walk.
"I've been working on plate discipline. I'm just as pumped to get the walk as I am to hit the bomb," said Sparks.
The 24-year-old was a second round pick out of UC-Irvine in 2014, but last year’s offensive struggles dropped him off the list of Reds top prospects. An improved mental approach may just reverse the slide.
The California native is also thrilled to be back in Pensacola. The excitement goes beyond just familiarity. He calls the home crowd at Wahoos Stadium a huge advantage.
