David Gonzalez joined the WEAR news team in May 2015 as a Multimedia Journalist.
David was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. He lived in Phoenix, Arizona for three years while earning his Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. He is a proud Sun Devil. While at ASU, David worked as a reporter for Cronkite NewsWatch.
David started his career as a Multimedia Journalist for KOLD News 13 in Tucson, Arizona. He covered major events like the aftermath of the January 8 shooting that injured former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and killed 13 others, raging wildfires and Arizona's controversial immigration law.
Before moving to the Sunshine State, David worked for KFDX in Wichita Falls, Texas as an Anchor and Reporter. During his time in Texoma, he covered many stories like the devastation left behind by powerful storms in Oklahoma, and the crippling drought affecting North Texas.
Also, David earned many regional Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for Television General News Reporting and Television News Photography. In 2010, he was presented with the Mark of Excellence National Award for Television News Photography.
In his spare time, David loves backpacking, traveling, photography, and spending time with family and friends. He loves trying new restaurants and beers so if you have any recommendations, send them his way!
