New tool can prevent accidental poisonings

Child safety caps help keep children out of pill bottles. But another tool exists that can keep little ones out of liquid medicines.

The Centers for Disease Control and the Georgia Poison Center tested how effective flow restrictors are.  They're added to the neck of medicine bottles... To keep the liquid from pouring out. Researchers handed bottles of strawberry syrup to small children... And asked them to try.

Only eleven percent got any significant amount out.  The researchers say the flow restrictors, in combination with child-proof caps, could prevent thousands of accidental poisonings.
