Federal government's website offering health insurance coverage

WASHINGTON  --  The federal government's website offering health care coverage under "Obamacare" is up and running giving Americans the opportunity to purchase
 insurance.

The Obama Administration says the government shut-down will not affect this next phase of the Affordable Care Act.

Some have had difficulty today accessing the website.
Open enrollment for the Affordable Health Act -- also known as "Obamacare" -- is here.

"I'm just going to get your blood pressure..."
Now every American can start shopping for coverage through health care exchanges...

Especially the 48 million who do not have insurance which is about 15 % of the population...
Including Ronald Morgan who may need his finger amputated.

Ronald Morgan, uninsured    "If I have to lose my finger that's just part of the process and God's will, but the bill still has to come."

The government website -- health care.gov -- allows you to shop around... compare plans... and buy insurance.

Nelly Kinsela, WA Health Benefit Exchange
"Give yourself half an hour, an hour, just to like really dig in to see what

Plans are available to you in your area."
And *everyone* -- regardless of age... gender... income... or pre-existing condition, will be able to get insurance.

Rebecca Jarvis, ABC News Chief Business & Economics Correspondent
"Most Americans aren't even going to need to do this. If you're already covered by your employer or if you're covered by Medicare, you don't
have to use this website."

If you continue using your employer insurance, know *some* plans included in that coverage are changing.

Critics argue "Obamacare" won't decrease overall health care costs and some complain the website is already suffering technical glitches with
20 minute delays to talk to a representative.

"Will I in fact have more affordable health care?"
With many Americans still uncertain how this law will effect their family and their budget.

Dr. Richard Besser, ABC News Chief Health & Medical Editor
Many states are manning call centers and have already been flooded with questions.

Those who don't purchase health coverage in six months -- by March 31st - will face fines.
