Angels in our Midst (Isaiah Price)

He's only in elementary school, but he has a caring heart that belies his years. While he is just a student himself, he has a few lessons in compassion that we could all learn.

It is third grader Isaiha Price's first year at Holm Elementary School, but already he has become a leader. He has distinguished himself by "not" distinguishing others in a diverse student population.

"We have about 42 percent ese students," said Debra Simpkins, Holm Elementary Principal. "We have medically health impaired, we have autism, we have learning disabilities; just a wide range."

Isaiha is an honor roll student but he's not doing his own work right now. He'll catch up later. He noticed a classmate was struggling. Laws Savage is a child with autism.  Sometimes he needs a little help staying focused and isaiha just goes to him.

"It's, it's, it's so incredibly caring; that it comes out completely in him that he can't let it go. He has to go to that child," said Ms. Roh. "He does this all on his own, all the time.  It's just consistent."

Isaiha reaches out with a kind heart, never putting down, always lifting up. "He's intelligent. He can read big words that he can help me with words, I can help him with words," Price described.

"Like a sort of friend," said Savage. "I am a friend."

He's a friend to the child who wants to get out of his wheelchair, ditch his walker and run with all the other children. Isaiha is there to give him a lift too.

What Isaiha doesn't have patience for is intolerance and the schoolyard bully.

"They're just mean. They don't know stuff so they need someone who can help them. That's why school is there so it can help them learn," Isaiha said.

"There is a compassion that is starting to develop in the entire class. I think that is that inspiration that isiah is providing for all of us," said Ms. Roh.

"They're learning from each other and that's a more valuable lesson than anything that can be taught to them," said Ms. Simpkins.

"I'm just making sure they can have like a normal life," Isaiha said.

"That's Isaiha. That is Isaiha," Ms. Roh said.
