Dangerous curve on Bayou Boulevard safety project

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  A Pensacola road with a history of car wrecks and deaths will be getting safer.
The Florida Department of Transportation has a resurfacing project planned for Bayou Boulevard from Du Pont Drive to Cervantes.

The department plans to add five-foot paved shoulders, and rumble strips...
And they're considering adding safety signs.

Flowers, a stuffed animal and a message to drivers.
Memorials like these line Bayou Boulevard.
This is the most recent life claimed by a curve.
Now the state is making it safer.

This stretch of road has a reputation.
Annette Masicott is reminded of it, every time she walks the sidewalk and see's the makeshift memorials along side it.

It causes me to stop and reflect and consider the loss of life...
People say it's the curve.
The speeds drivers take.

So far three markers mark at least three lives lost.
That's three too many, anything that can be done to alleviate that situation is appropriate

In the past, some of the victim's families have asked for a guardrail along the curve.
But the state says it's not necessary.

Wider shoulders and rumble strips and extra signage along this road should help improve safety.

People are not sure it's enough, but they hope it will be.
The lives are usually so very young what a waste it is.
The project is expected to start in 2015.
