UPS agrees to $40 million settlement

UPS has agreed to a $40 million settlement deal in a federal investigation into deliveries for illegal online pharmacies.

The shipping company also says it's taking steps to make sure it doesn't deliver for such businesses again.

Government investigators say UPS knowingly delivered prescription drugs without valid prescriptions for internet pharmacies between 2003 and 2010.

Under an agreement with the Department of Justice, UPS will forfeit $40 million in payments it took from those unauthorized pharmacies.

In a written statement, a spokeswoman said the company has "an obligation and responsibility to help curb the sale and shipment of drugs sold through illegal internet pharmacies."
