US diplomat among 6 Americans killed in Afghanistan this weekend
A U.S. diplomat was among six Americans killed in Afghanistan this weekend.
On Saturday, a roadside bomb exploded in the southern Afghan province of Zabul.
Five Americans died in the blast, including 25-year-old Anne Smedinghoff.
She was delivering books to a school when her convoy came under attack.
It's believed she's the first American diplomat killed since the September terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.
Officials have not said who they believe is responsible for the blast.
"I think there's no words for anybody to describe the extraordinary, harsh contradiction of a young 25-year-old woman with all of the future ahead of her, believing in the possibilities of diplomacy, of changing people's lives, of making a difference, having an impact, who was taking knowledge in books to deliver them to a school," said John Kerry.
Kerry called Smedinghoff's family in Pennsylvania to offer his condolences.
Another American was also killed Saturday in second attack.
