Two teens vacationing in Okaloosa County hailed as heroes

OKALOOSA COUNTY   --  Two teenagers vacationing  in Okaloosa County are being praised for helping an elderly man find his way home.

16 year-old Gabby Brough and 15-year-old Lindsay West are vacationing in Fort Walton Beach for spring break.
They were walking along the beach when they noticed an elderly man wandering around.

They didn't think anything of it until they went inside the Pelican Isle Condo's lobby. The same man they saw wandering around, was sitting all alone.

Lindsay West: "I felt bad. I was like, Gabby, this guy keeps walking around, do you think we need to ask him if he needs help?"

"We didn't think it was a big deal, but obviously it was."
The girls called Brough's mother. When she got there, they started asking him questions and realized he needed help.
Turns out--- John Kirwan was reported missing earlier that day, his family frantically looking for him.
Kirwan is in the early stages of dementia and couldn't find his way home.
The sergeant who responded is recommending the two teenagers be recognized for their civic service.
