Sunrise Produce warehouse fire

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Firefighters worked into the night to put out a warehouse fire that's been burning since Friday afternoon.

The fire was inside the Sunrise Produce warehouse just off Brent Lane in Pensacola.

Sunrise also shares the space with several other companies.

There were employees inside when the fire started, but everyone made it out of the building safely.

Black smoke bellowed from windows and walls as the fire quickly made its way through the building.

Willie Mask was one of the last employees to make it out.

"The smoke was bad. Hardly couldn't see, couldn't breathe. Lucky we knew our way out of the warehouse and knew where all the doors are," said Mask.

Employees describe a terrifying and chaotic scene as they made their escape.

"We were trying open doors in the back to let the smoke out and all of a sudden we felt a big explosion, and it blew all of us down and made everything go everywhere."

"Felt a pressure on our ears and the next thing we heard everybody running from the back shouting, "Get out, Get out."

When everyone was out, firefighters went in searching for flames to put, with no luck.

"You could barely see in front of you, maybe a foot or two feet," said Escambia firefighter Norman Robinson.

By early evening, the fire got the upper hand.

The smoke became darker, thicker. Flames began shooting out of the building, firefighters were forced out for fear of the roof collapsing.

The fight now relied on the water cannons on their trucks

Outside, some employees watched.

Waiting to see what the fire would do, how much of their building would be left intact.

Firefighters still trying to figure out what started the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
