LATEST INFORMATION: Southwest Airlines new flights

PENSACOLA   --  Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward announced today Southwest Airlines arrival to Pensacola International Airport later this year.
   
The airline will offer non-stop flights to and from Nashville and Houston.
What this could mean for travelers and the community.

"This ticket counter is empty now, but starting in November this is where Southwest will be in Pensacola International Airport."
   
Mayor Ashton Hayward says it's been a long battle getting the low cost airline to Pensacola.
In 2011 Southwest bought Airtran which currently flys from the airport.

Lina Ow  "I use to fly more but had to cut back because of ticket prices went up, but now I can fly more."
   
Two flights from Nashville to Pensacola will be offered daily.
Also two flights from Pensacola to Nashville  .
   
Southwest will also offer daily flights to and from Houston.    
Janice Rush has flown Southwest numerous times out of other airports...

Janice Rush  "They're wonderful. I love their check in before hand that you do online and it sets your seat assignment that way and they're very efficient, great deals on their flight, so that will be a big benefit."
   
Many travelers are excited about the discounted flights Southwest offers.
Some are even planning to ditch their current airline providers.

Southwest will end service to Atlanta..
   
But say passengers will be able to reach more cities through the new flights.
Delta will still fly to their  hub Atlanta.

The Hyatt Place opened in April on airport property.
The hotel says its already seen a steady flow of customers and is hoping the new airline will bring more business.

Adam Emeling GM Hyatt Place  "We really think that we can get out there and bring in a little bit more business not only to our hotel but the whole city in general."
