University of Florida tries desparately to save endangered butterfly

FLORIDA  --  Scientists at the University of Florida are desperately trying to save a critically endangered Florida butterfly.

There are only  a handful of Schaus Swallowtail butterflies left.

An entomologist at the university is raising seven caterpillars in a climate controlled environment in an effort to save the nearly extinct species last year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service issued an emergency directive to collect the butterflies in Biscayne national park and raise their eggs.

The Schaus Swallowtail lives in a small area of southeastern Florida and has been an endangered species since 1984.
