Vegetable fat increases cancer survival chance, study shows

New research shows men with prostate cancer may be able to significantly improve their chances of survival if they substitute healthy vegetable fats including olive oil, nuts and avocadoes for animal fats and carbohydrates.

Researchers say adding a single tablespoon of olive or canola oil a day lowered the risk of prostate cancer death 29 percent. Adding one serving of nuts a day was associated with an 18 percent lower risk.

Reducing unnecessary ct scans in children and lowering the doses of radiation used in those scans could save lives.
That's according to a new study in the journal j-a-m-a pediatrics. Researchers say the 4 million pediatric ct scans done every year result in approximately 5-thousand future cases of cancers. They say the radiation doses used in the scans are higher than in traditional x-rays.
