Daughter dies, mother could face prison time

A Pensacola mother could face up to 20 years in prison, for the death of her 1-year-old daughter. Demetria Johnson pleaded no contest to two counts of child neglect yesterday.
Back in March, Johnson and her then-boyfriend Jeffrey Simmons were arrested. Escambia Sheriff's investigators say they severely abused the baby at their home on Srant Drive. Witnesses say Simmons grabbed the child by the neck and threw her into a crib.
She died at Sacred Heart Hospital a few weeks later. Simmons is charged with second degree murder and aggravated battery on a child.
Johnson is expected to testify at Simmons' trial this fall.
