Future Chamber meetings to be open to public
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- A decision by the state attorney's office will require the greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce to make their meetings open to the public. The Chamber's boards of directors were already considering it after criticism surrounding private negotiations with outgoing chamber president Jim Hizer. The issue was scheduled for a vote July 22nd. Now the board is ready to immediately make the changes necessary to be more transparent.
John Hutchinson said, “It just means that you have to be cautious in terms of making sure that you're following all the Tennants of Sunshine. Making sure that all your discussions are open. Making sure that your meetings are open. Making sure that your records are open. And we'll have to put processes in place to make sure that takes place."
Jim Hizer will stay in his position until August when his contract ends. Hizer will also receive a "separation package" that was negotiated with the board.
