Pensacola Beach sea turtle ordinance

PENSACOLA BEACH -- There are plans to dim the lights on Pensacola Beach. Tonight, Escambia commissioners passed an ordinance to minimize artificial lighting so newly hatched sea turtles won't get disoriented and will have a better chance of making it to the gulf. The new regulations include requiring low mounted light sources, red lights, and shielded light fixtures. New construction projects must start complying now.
Existing structures have until May of 2018. The ordinance is the result of months of discussions to balance environmental concerns with the needs of residents and businesses.
