Cities better prepared for hurricane season

Hurricane season is underway -- and cities along the gulf and east coasts say they are better prepared this year. New York City and Miami are using updated storm surge information from the National Hurricane Center to create new evacuation maps and zones.
In New York City, those zones include 37 percent of its population -- an eight percent increase from the previous evacuation zones.
And in Miami – 1.9 million people are included -- instead of 600,000. Experts say all hurricane evacuation maps are based entirely on flooding from storm surge -- and not from wind or rain-triggered flooding.
