ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Gulf Power may soon increase rates for electricity

ESCAMBIA COUNTY    --  Gulf Power customers could soon be paying more for their electricity.
The company wants to replace some of the power lines that are more than 70-years-old.

They say replacing them will help keep service reliable.
Gulf Power is asking the Public Service Commission to approve a two-stage increase to cover the cost.

If it's approved, the rate would go up 8.94 per thousand kilowatt hours in April 2014.

Then in 2015 it would go up another 1.99.
The final hearing on this request is scheduled for December.
