City answers questions about future Destin strip club
DESTIN -- For more than six months, neighbors have been fighting a proposed strip club in Destin. They believe the club is close to getting a go-ahead, while their questions about the permit haven't been answered.
We came to Destin City Hall with a list of questions about the proposed strip club. Some of the questions have been on the table for months. No one was available to speak on camera, but they did email us some answers. The club called the runway would be built on airport road, right across from a residential neighborhood. A legal settlement forces the city to allow it there, and to allow it to serve alcohol.
But opponents say the developer is getting extra accommodations, like relaxed parking rules.
Airport Veterinary Clinic Worker Kelly Haeusler said, "They're getting more exclusive exemptions that are not being offered to all the other restaurants and bars in town."
The city says selling alcohol doesn't necessarily make the club a bar, and they have enough parking for what's called a sexually oriented business. Another question is whether the settlement that allows the club is even valid, after the original developer was shot to death in a strip club parking lot.
If you have an opinion on the strip club, for or against, now's the time to contact your mayor and city council.
