Pentagon rethinks "Danger Pay" for US military

WASHINGTON   --  The Pentagon is reconsidering ending so-called "Danger Pay" for US troops serving in the Middle East.
Defense Department officials say they are re-examining the move because of the recent increase in violence in the region including Egypt and the Persian Gulf.

The cuts were projected to trim the Pentagon's budget by 120-million dollars a year.
"Imminent Danger Pay" earns troops an extra 225-dollars a month.

There's been no definitive decision made yet on the matter.
Pay for troops serving in Afghanistan would not be affected.

US military officials are also deciding whether to proceed with a scheduled joint military exercise with Egypt in September in light of recent violence there.
