Planning Team tours route of proposed Ferry Service

PENSACOLA BEACH   --  The plan to start up a ferry service in Pensacola Bay is one step closer to reality.

Today the planning team set out on a four hour tour of the potential stops the boats would make.

That includes the Port of Pensacola, Fort Pickens and Quiet Water Beach at Pensacola Beach.

The team got a first hand look at what the route will look like and some things that still need to be addressed.

They include the number of boats, what kind and how they will be operated.

It is a major step in a plan that has been decades in the making.
Gulf Islands National Seashore is getting just over 4 million dollars to buy at least two ferries.

The goal is to have the ferry service up and running by May 2017.
