Pensacola Beach hosts first Gulf Coast Summer Fest

PENSACOLA BEACH -- Pensacola Beach is packed with thousands of fans ready to see some R&B summer soul acts. Gulf Coast Summer Fest 2013 is under way, with headliners American Idol winner, Fantasia, Keith Sweat and Mint Condition poised to hit the stage tonight.
It's the first major R&B concert to hit Pensacola Beach, and people have turned out in large numbers to see some big names hit the stage. Fall may be around the corner but it still feels like the dog days of summer.
Despite the heat, for these music lovers, getting a chance to see summer fest headliners makes every drop of sweat worth it.
Summer Fest Fan Shirley Poleitz said, "Fantasia I guess, Keith Sweat, and anybody that sings. (Fantasia) Oh I said Fantasia."
Summer Fest Monica Butler said, "Im excited baby, Im ready to see Keith Sweat, Im already sweating, but Im going to sweat more when I get in there."
Johnny Jones has lived in Pensacola all his life. He said he's glad to see the beach branching out with its first R&B themed music concert.
"Well because it gives us something to do, and as long as it's positive, that's a good thing, it's nice, Jones said.
Lavanda Washington came all the way from Dallas, Texas.
"I came down 20, hit 98, came to Mobile to pick up my sister and all my buddies then we headed onto Pensacola Beach to see the fest, said Washington.
Summer fest couldn't have come at a better time. By Labor Day weekend, tourist typically go home, so the added revenue is a welcome sight for beach businesses.
With several more performers left to hit the stage, Summer Fest fans say, they're in for a long night.
Summer Fest will continue on Pensacola until about 11 tonight.
