Back to school germs

School is back in session for area children -- but there's more to it than just books and bus rides.

Germs in the classroom can lead to lots of kids getting sick.
So what can you do to protect your little ones?
Doctors say following these steps can keep your kids healthy.

Have your child bring their own water bottles to school and ask them not to share with anyone.
Use hand sanitizer, especially before eating their lunch.
Make sure your child gets enough rest to keep the immune system healthy.
Sleep experts say they need 10 to 11 hours of sleep a night.

Keep your kids well fed.
A nutritious breakfast can build energy and resistance to germs.
And doctors say, bundle up their overcoats.
Studies show that people who protect themselves from winter's wrath are less likely to catch colds later on in the year.
