Georgio's Pizza pays tribute to First Responders

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   --  A local pizza place paid tribute to area First Responders today.
"Georgio's" invited them to stop by and have a meal, on the house.

It's part of the restaurant's annual "First Responders Day".
The tradition started in 2002, when Georgio's owner, Carl Hixon, was looking for a way to honor those who risk their lives everyday for public safety.

"I appreciate what Cael does. I want to come out and show support for him. Not just today but throughout the year. He's a real champion for first responders."

Along with the free lunch there is typically a little competition in the form of a "pizza eating contest".

It raises money for a charity of the winning department's choice.
This year only one person agreed to take part.

So he won by default.
