RECAP: Escambia Co. considers buying church property in Brownsville

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   -- Escambia County commissioners are considering paying a church $2.3 million for two pieces of property in Brownsville.

One piece of land is located on Desoto Street, the other on Gonzales Street.

The land deal includes a large community center, that provides several services for people in the area.
Under the proposal, the county would continue to facilitate many of those services and enhance them with help from the community.

People we spoke with say they are happy to see that the county is considering investing in Brownsville.

"Brownsville isn't a bad area. People do the things they do because they don't have anything to do."

As for the property north of Gonzales Street, there's talk of possibly putting in a park or a field for athletic events.
The county commission could decide whether to buy the land at its meeting tomorrow.
