Perdido Key fire station opens today

The grand opening of Escambia Fire Rescue Station 19 in Perdido Key.

The new fire rescue station includes three garage bays. Two for pickup trucks that can pull rescue wave runners and one for ladder 19. The inside of the station is spacious. Firefighters on duty have their own sleeping rooms. They also have a large kitchen and living room. On the third floor of the building is a helicopter landing pad that will be used for life flight services. Firefighters on duty here say the new building makes doing their jobs a bit easier.

"We have a lot of high risk hazards. We have over 40 on the key. The have challenges depending on the time of the year so we have a lot of life hazard," said Joel Richardson with Paramedic Escambia Fire Rescue.

The fire station is open to the public so you can come down and get your own tour and say hello to the fire fighters who are on duty.
