County proposes property tax hike to increase salaries

New this morning... The sheriff's office in Santa Rosa county is asking you to support pay raises for county employees.

The sheriff's office posted this video on its Facebook page and YouTube Monday, explaining why the county wants to raise property taxes to increase salaries.

Employees with the sheriff's office haven't had a raise since 2007, and the majority of civilian employees were laid off in 2008. The county is proposing a property tax hike that would cost homeowners $18 for every $100,000 of taxable value.

The tax increase would pay for a 3 percent raise for county employees.

You can weigh in on this issue at the county's last public hearing next Monday at 6 p.m.
