UWF/Maritime Community Park agreement of use for college football games

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   --  In a few years, you'll be able to catch a college football game with a view of Pensacola Bay.

Today,  the University of West Florida and Community Maritime Park Associates announced its agreement.

The UWF football team will play its home games at Community Maritime Park, when it begins its inaugural season in fall of 2016.

The university plans to eventually build its own stadium on campus for the NCAA Division II team.

But, until it is complete, the team can play at Maritime Park for up to three years.
"It would be just a great activity for people to come down, tailgate, The South here, for Northwest Florida and South Alabama is known for football and it would be just great."

UWF plans to hire a head football coach in Spring 2014, who will start recruiting the first football student-athletes that fall.

Maritime Park currently holds 5100 people.
Leaders are still trying to see how they can add more seating to accommodate up to 9,000 fans.
