Florida woman gets new trial on "Stand your Ground" law
FLORIDA -- A Florida woman sentenced to 20-years in prison is getting a new trial.
An Appellate Court made the ruling today.
Marissa Alexander was convicted of aggravated assault for firing a warning shot inside her home.
She says she was trying to scare off her abusive husband and tried to use Florida's "Stand your Ground" law as her defense.
A jury convicted Alexander after deliberating for just 12 minutes.
The case gained attention of civil right leaders who say the woman was persecuted because of her race.
