Plan to sell ads on state trails on hold due to lack of bidders
A plan to sell ads on state trails is falling flat.
Last month we told you the state was poised to start selling advertising on eight trails.
The plan is now on hold because only one bidder responded, offering the state only twenty-eight thousand dollars.
Ken Bryan of the rails to trails program helped negotiate the original legislation.
He says the ads need to be more lucrative to offset budget cuts that were first threatened in 2009.
I'm hoping that we can generate enough money to keep those from happening, that's my main concern is not losing the level of service that we enjoy in our trails now."
The state is still negotiating with the lone bidder, it may also reissue its invitation to bid.
