Emmitt Smith comes home

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   --  Today pro football Hall of Famer and Pensacola native, Emmitt Smith is back in town.
He is here for a ceremony in his honor.
Emmitt Smith will be presented with a special plaque during a ceremony at Escambia High School, in front his friends, family, and students.

An 8-time pro bowler and former high school standout at Escambia High School, Smith will be presented with his hometown Hall of Famer plaque during a special ceremony at 2:15 pm today.

The plaque will hang in the school's gymnasium, to serve as an inspiration for the school's students and athletes. The presentation will be made by Smith's high school friend, Jimmie Nichols. Some in the community think the presentation will be beneficial for Escambia High School students.

Larry Lord   "We produce a lot of good sports stars out of Pensacola. During his time, I think he did a good job as a role model. It will be good for him to talk to kids."
Tim O'Connor   "I think it's good to see kids from this area, for them to see if they work hard and do the right thing, you can succeed in life."

In addition to the plaque, an Emmitt Smith road sign will be on display in Pensacola.
