Escambia County Peace Rally

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  The recent string of violence has some community leaders planning a Peace Rally Saturday morning.
Over the weekend, 3 people were killed.

Tony Brown and Greg Bryant were shot in Ensley.
Tyquon Prim was stabbed to death along Mobile Highway.

The Peace walk will be centered around the Ensley community this weekend.
It starts at Ensley Baptist Church, and organizers are hoping for a large turn out.

Ellison Bennett - Community Activist
"I think people are frustrated, people are suffering and they need some healing"

Ellison Bennett like many community activists are tired of turning on the news and seeing images like this. Crime scenes with another person losing their life.

He claims the code of silence that plague neighborhoods, is partly the blame for holding back progress.

Ellison Bennett
"We need to get these guys that's perpetuating these crimes off the street, and the only way we're going to be able to do that if people of goodwill and have knowledge of this nonsense coming forward"

The Peace Walk is intended to take the message of non-violence straight to the community by marching down Sonnyboy Lane in Ensley, and back to the church for prayer.

Organizers hope churches of all denominations, concerned citizens and civil rights groups show up in full force.

Charles Thornton is also very concerned about the violence.  He says the time for talking is over.

Charles Thornton - concerned about violence
"What we're going to have to do is have to figure out a way to reach the ones that are on the streets"

The Peace Walk is Saturday at 9am, at Ensley Missionary Baptist Church.
