Santa Rosa Co sheriff's office plan for new patrol cars

SANTA ROSA COUNTY   --  The Santa Rosa County sheriff's office is working on a plan to get new patrol cars.

There are 290 cruisers in the fleet.
Nearly half of those have more than 100,000 miles on them.
Some even have more than 200,000 miles.
The sheriff's office usually hands over surplus money in its budget back to county commissioners to go into the general fund.
This year, they hope some of that money can be used to buy at least 20 new vehicles.

Rich Aloy - Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office
"When it's time to use it for emergency services, the last thing you want to do is have a break down.  We just can't afford that, when someone calls us we need to get there fast, safely and on time"

It costs about 27,000 dollars to buy a new cruiser and have it retro-fitted with lights, radios, sirens and other gadgets.
