"Right to Speak" measure approved by Governor
Another Florida law that takes effect today, allows the public to speak at open government meetings.
Governor Rick Scott approved the "Right-to-Speak" measure.
It reverses two court decisions made in 2010, that would not allow the public to speak at government meetings.
Now the law states that local officials do not have to take public comments during the meetings where they make decisions.
But, public testimony must be allowed with-in an appropriate time frame.
Officials can also make decisions without the public weighing in during emergencies, such as hurricanes.
