Gray cupcakes spread awareness of depression, mental illness

Some bakers in Seattle are raising awareness about depression with cupcakes.

The "Depressed Cake Shop" event was held at Washington State's capitol over the weekend.

Bakers made gray cupcakes with colorful fillings inside, symbolizing hope and recovery. The goal is open up a serious dialogue about a subject that's often seen as a stigma.

"I think it's such a creative idea of turning something traditionally happy to something gray is making people talk about depression. The numbers -- statistics show  1 in 4 people suffering from mental illness is very high."

All the proceeds from the event were donated to NAMI, a non-profit group that helps people with mental illness.
