Tennessee teen back in school after shark attack in Destin

DESTIN   --  An update to a story we first brought you a couple weeks ago.
A 12 year boy was bitten by a shark in Destin earlier this month.

He's back home in Tennessee now but the memory is still fresh.
12 year old Zac Standridge is back home in Madisonville, Tennessee.

In fact, he's back in school as well.
His arm is still healing from the shark attack.
The family feels incredibly lucky his injuries weren't any worse.

He has multiple bites in different directions.
It was meant to be a fall break on the gulf.

Instead Zac Standridge returned from a vacation in Destin with about a hundred twenty stitches on his right arm after a shark attack.

The family had just arrived at the vacation condo at Silver Beach Towers.
Zac says he was playing in the waves with his cousin despite the fact that double red flags were flying, meaning no one was allowed to swim in the gulf.

When I squat down, I squat down and jump over the waves   And I squat down and blinked. It lasted like 5 seconds. That's when it happened. And when I opened it, I seen the fin flipping away and just looked at it.

It was just surreal when he came out of the water. He was just, I mean, just said, mom-shark!  And it was like times stopped .

The twelve year old was rushed to the hospital and into surgery.
Doctors told his mother he'd been bitten *at least twice.

I didn't feel anything cause it happened so fast.
We have an amazing God and he's been watching over him since it happened.

Despite the dramatic turn of events the Standridges did get a little bit of a vacation in before they left.

Zac says the incident hasn't made him afraid of the water.
His family is hoping for an uneventful beach vacation down the road.

But yes, we'll definitely be going back.
The family says the boys were not very deep in the water.

They were told that it may have been a bull shark that attacked Zac.
But authorities say they don't really know.
