One in four women in our community will fall victim to domestic violence this year.
That's according to the Favor House of Escambia County.
The Favor House offers services to help both male and females dealing with physical and mental abuse.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
About 35 percent of assault victims end up here and at other hospitals in our area because of their abusive partner.
October is domestic violence awareness month. It's time for the community to come together and build a movement towards safe and healthy relationships for all individuals and families. During this month in particular, the Favor House who helps domestic violence victims in both Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties focus's on outreach programs. They teach nurses and doctors how to look for certain signs of abuse. They also target programs at other members of the community like students who are more and more becoming victims of domestic abuse.
Sue Hand- Executive Director, Favor House
"We do provide the safe emergency shelter and the important thing is that all services are offered at no cost because economics is one thing that keeps them in a battering relationship."
"Domestic violence is not something you talk about out loud. It's something so private. It happens in the home so a lot of people say hey they are doing good, but you could be going through hell."
