Spirit Airline passengers stranded due to unexpected safety checks
FORT LAUDERDALE/HOLLYWOOD INTL - Hundreds of Spirit Airline passengers are *still* stuck at a south Florida airport because of unexpected safety checks.
Many passengers slept on terminal floors and chairs overnight at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Some flights were delayed for *hours, because of safety checks being performed by Spirit.
Crews are looking over all the aircraft engines as a precautionary measure.
It was prompted after one of their aircraft's had engine failure last week.
A spokeswoman for Spirit says the inspections are designed to take 45 minutes, but some passengers were delayed more than *eight hours.
"I waited around for about four hours, and then I finally made my way up there, and I told them, 'This has got to be a terrible place to work,' because the police officers have told me that this happens every night."
Some passengers complained that all they got was a seven dollar voucher for food.
And luggage has not been released to passengers who want to make other travel arrangements.
