Eglin pilot receives Distinguished Flying Cross for Libya mission
EGLIN AFB -- A pilot who flew a daring rescue mission over Libya two years ago was honored today.
Captain John Easton received the "Distinguished Flying Cross" at a ceremony at Eglin Air Force Base.
In March, 2011, Captain Easton was one of two pilots whose mission was to destroy a Surface-to-Air missile site in Libya.
But the other plane had a problem, and the pilot and weapons officer were forced to eject behind enemy lines.
Captain Easton spearheaded the rescue efforts coordinating the rescue, the refueling of other aircraft, and provided the escort for the men's safe return to a base in England.
