Legalizing Medical Marijuana
FLORIDA -- Florida state economists are taking a close look at a proposed amendment to legalize Medical Marijuana.
They spent several hours Monday morning looking at what might happen if it's approved.
One of the biggest questions is how many people might use the substance if it's legalized.
Economist Amy Baker says it will likely be less than half a million, but also says there are some unknowns.
"I think you're looking at, under normal conditions, that 1785 to 425450 that we were talking about as being a good range. Now what we've asked is for additional information related to medical tourism, you know, would that do something unusual...."
The economists also voiced some concerns about language in the amendment.
It requires a medical facility dispensing marijuana to also be the sole source of growing it.
The amendment is expected to be on the 2014 ballot.
