Hurlburt Field Airmen use diving skills to clean underwater eco-system
HURLBURT FIELD -- A team of Hurlburt Field Airmen used their scuba diving skills to help clean up an underwater eco-system.
They went out to the Navarre Beach Reef on Monday.
They spent about two hours cleaning up debris that has collected around the area.
The artificial reef is less than a year old.
But the trash has already become a problem.
Not only for the ecosystem but for divers as well.
There wasn't a whole lot of trash seeing as this is a new reef. But what we did run into is fishing line. That always causes a hazard because of the hooks and it becomes a containment issue. Because you can get caught up in the line.
With the help of the divers the reef will be able to grow and prosper without debris.
