New Home construction sign of economic recovery

New homes are a sign of the economic recovery.

New housing and subdivisions are popping up all over the Gulf Coast.
All three counties issued more building permits this year than they did five years ago.

Over the past two years in Santa Rosa County construction  sites like this are becoming more common, but is that a sign of the economy bouncing back?

Last Thursday the Navarre Chamber showed off one of their newest subdivisions, "The Gates at Soundside".

The new gated community has eight lots, three of the homes are finished and one is in the construction phase.

Local Adams Home realtor Sue Rogers says now is the time to buy new constructions.

"Anybody that's sitting on the fence wondering if it's time to buy it is definitely time to buy because prices can't go any lower especially on new construction because new construction prices keep rising," said Rogers.

Many people are pleased to see the new homes popping up all over the county and understand why people want to build in Navarre.

"It's a beautiful area and I love the warm weather and it's a nice friendly town," said Nadine Jones.

But, some have mixed feelings on their small community growing.
"Yes and no. I kind of like the little town but then we have to grow also and it's good for the economy," said Jones.

"My husband and I decided that we would continue to stay here because of the small town feel that we appreciate and love so much about Navarre," said Leslie Adams.

If you're interested in buying a home or building a home experts say your first step should be checking with a realtor and also checking out the  housing market at that time.
